If you are looking for a way to whiten your teeth, while also concealing a minor crack and closing a small gap in between 2 of your teeth, you may think you will have to have your teeth whitened, use an aligner and then have a composite filling placed.

And in some instances, this may be the case, but did you know that you can likely resolve all 3 cosmetic issues with 1 treatment? Porcelain veneers!

Our prosthodontic dentist in Melbourne East, Dr Kirthi Kosalram, has helped many patients to improve their smiles using porcelain veneers. As the procedure is non-invasive, not uncomfortable and only requires a mould or scan of your teeth to complete, if you want to resolve most cosmetic issues with your teeth, it is worth enquiring about with our dentist Kew!

But what are some of the most common issues that can be resolved with dental veneers? Our dentist Kew answers that query below. Enjoy!

Correct staining

Stains are common in dentistry and can be due to consuming foods that are too high in tannins, irregular brushing or simply genetics.

But if you have seen our dentist Kew to have your teeth whitened and it has not worked as well as you wanted it to, then it may be worth asking about veneers.

There are no bleaches or gels required for these to work and we will simply need to sand off a small section of your tooth to place the veneer, using dental cement.

Not only that, but as porcelain is less porous than enamel, any staining you experienced is unlikely to recur. Great!

Conceal cracks and chips

This was touched on briefly earlier; if you have a crack or chip on one of your teeth, then it can not only be unsightly, but it can also lead to other issues such as decay or sensitivity.

And while this will be dependent on the extent of the crack or chip, your prosthodontist dentist Kew may be able to conceal and repair the issue using a veneer.

Hide gaps

As before, gaps in teeth will vary in severity and for some people, the only thing that can alleviate a gap in their teeth is the use of an aligner or brace.

But if your gap is minor, we may be able to correct it by using 2 slightly larger veneers on the teeth that the gap is between, closing the gap with ease and without discomfort.

Create better symmetry

Sometimes, a person may simply have an asymmetric smile; a canine may be longer than the one on the other side of the mouth or there may be a slight tilt to one of the teeth that causes the smile to look off to one side.

Once again, the only option for this may be a brace, but for more minor cases, we can use a veneer to lengthen a tooth, change its shape or straighten it.

Prevent sensitivity

And finally, as veneers are placed over the front of a tooth, they can prevent dental sensitivity.

Please note, however, that this is only the case if you have dental sensitivity due to microscopic holes in your enamel.
