What are porcelain veneers?

Otherwise known as dental veneers or dental laminates, they consist of wafer-thin, shell-like coverings (about the thickness of a contact lens) which are inserted onto the surface of teeth using a resin cement. While modern veneers are designed to be thin, their strength is comparable to that of tooth enamel, giving them the ability to last for many years.

The porcelain veneers that we insert are manufactured locally by trusted laboratories in Kew and Melbourne. They have a natural translucent quality similar to that of enamel, the outer covering of teeth. In addition, they are resistant to staining.

Some of the problems that can be resolved using dental veneers are:

  • Stained teeth
  • Poorly shaped teeth
  • Chipped or fractured teeth
  • Worn teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Gappy or spaced teeth

Veneers can be inserted for most adult patients and are usually carried out with minimal tooth preparation, thus conserving tooth structure. Our processes start with comprehensive treatment planning, implementation and end with insertion, followed by prompt reviews to ensure that you receive a natural-looking smile that lasts for a long time.

Patients can enjoy a flawless, healthy smile in as few as 2 visits.

Process involved

Consultation

We start this process by scheduling a consultation visit to understand your requirements of appearance, size, shape, colour and any other characteristic that you might like to achieve with your smile. Dr Kosalram will consult with you to discuss the best colour, shape and size that will be suitable to your appearance and facial type.

First visit

During the first visit and after a local anaesthetic is administered, a minimal amount of tooth enamel is abraded. Records are then taken. This is done to ensure that your veneers are fabricated to fit perfectly and sit flush with your existing tooth structure. While your permanent restorations are being fabricated, temporary restorations will be inserted for a short period of 2 weeks (approximately) until your permanent porcelain veneers are ready. Veneers will be fabricated by trusted laboratory technicians who are located in Kew and the surrounding suburbs of Melbourne.

Final visit

At the final visit, a try in of the new veneers will be organised. Upon approval of the colour, shape and appearance of the veneers, the permanent porcelain veneers are inserted. Minor changes might necessitate an additional visit within 1-2 days time.
