General dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, restorative dentistry – the list goes on for what our dentist Kew can do for you. At Melbourne East Prosthodontics, Dr Kirthi Kosolram has over 20 years of experience in providing advanced dental treatments, including reconstructive dental work. Getting the treatment you require doesn’t have to involve travelling to different practices, when everything you could need may be here under one roof, with one dentist Kew. No fuss. No hassle. No nonsense. Just great care. One of our most popular treatments is dental implantation for patients who need to replace missing teeth.

Dental implants: what they are

Dental implants are used to securely fit replacement teeth to the jawbone, so that they will not move when you are talking, eating or drinking. They also allow you to keep your replacement teeth permanently in your mouth, like your natural teeth. Dental implants are small screws which are fixed to the jawbone and, once the gums have healed around them, your permanent replacement teeth can be attached to them. While you are waiting for the healing process to finish, we will provide you with temporary replacement teeth. Replacement teeth can be either crowns, bridges or dentures. What you have will depend on how many teeth you need to replace. Typically, we advise that crowns are used for single tooth replacements, bridges for multiple teeth, and dentures for a whole replacement set.

Why dental implants?

If you like the sound of not having to take your teeth out to clean them, then dental implants could be for you. With replacement teeth permanently in your mouth, all you need to do is brush and floss them like your natural teeth. You should also come and see us for your routine check-ups. If you have a good oral hygiene routine, your teeth could last you forever!

You will also see an aesthetic improvement in replacing missing teeth and your smile should be much improved in this department. However, it is also good for your oral health to replace missing teeth. By restoring the missing teeth with dental implants, you are protecting any remaining natural teeth that you still have from being overexposed to bacteria. You will also give your face the structure it needs, so you could find that your face looks fresher too! If you have experienced any speech difficulties, jaw pain or chewing issues as a result of missing teeth, having dental implants should also resolve these issues for you.
