When you have a missing tooth or teeth, it can impact your confidence greatly. Especially if the missing tooth is located near the front of your mouth.

Traditionally, these issues would have been resolved using a fitted bridge or in more extreme cases a set of dentures, which would conceal the gap and allow you to bite and chew as normal. But in recent times, there has been a shift in the world of restoring teeth and now you can have dental implants fitted instead.

At Melbourne East Prosthodontics, our dentist Kew has helped many patients who have missing teeth to restore their smiles and their eating habits by using dental implants. These are in essence metal implants, which are placed into your jaw and then have a set of false, natural-looking, teeth attached to them.

This all sounds great, doesn’t it? And there are more advantages of having dental implants fitted, which our dentist Kew will discuss below.

No movement

The first thing to note about having dental implants fitted is that unlike traditional dentures, which are held in place with dental adhesives, dental implants and prosthetic teeth should not move. Our dentist Kew will always aim to ensure that the implants fitted to your jaw attach and fuse firmly and that the false teeth or a single tooth are able to be attached to them without inconvenience. So there will be no movement.

Natural look

Oral implants also offer a natural look, as our team will be able to create the prosthetic tooth or teeth to match your natural teeth in colour, size and even enamel transparency. So, there will be no noticeable difference between your prosthetic teeth and your real ones.

However, if you are having an entire denture fitted using oral implants (known as all on 4), you can have whichever shade of teeth fitted you desire. This means you may be able to get that gleaming Hollywood smile that you have always wanted. Just ask our team and we will aim to meet your goals in aesthetics.

Long lasting

If properly cared for with good oral hygiene and check-ups with our team, your oral implants should easily last up to and over 15 years. If you do notice that they are moving before this, however, you should come in and see our team for an assessment, so we can prevent further movement.

Cost-effective

You may have heard that oral implants are expensive. But, when compared to leaving gaps in the mouth unfilled with prosthetic teeth, they may actually work out cheaper. Not having these gaps filled can cause orthodontic issues and other problems such as dental decay, gum disease and even bone loss. So overall, they may be more cost-effective for you.

Improved diet

As mentioned earlier, oral implants (when fitted) should not move. This will allow you to bite into and chew harder foods. This will also enable you to vary your diet to include foods such as nuts, vegetables and fruits, giving you a better overall diet.
